This axe is inspired by the legendary warrior Ragnar Lothbrook. This is the same beast as our Ragnar hatchet, only burnt black with a lot of thick, black, genuine leather - fully wrapped for an extra gnarly finish. It comes with the same great hand stitched tan leather sheath with belt loops for functionality. This axe is a serious all round fully functional unit that would look mean in any display.
Burning black is an old blacksmiths trick to smooth the handle and prevent getting blisters whilst they work. It wraps the wood in a layer of carbon that's highly resistant to mould, insects, water and even fire. It also hardens the wood, making it less likely to crack or splinter. This process is called "Charring" - burning and rubbing in oil whilst the wood is still hot/warm. Cool right?

Love the look of the axe. Only thing that knocks off a star is the connection to the handle. I expected it to have a wedge to ensure a safe fit and also the top of the handle isn’t very well finished so although it looks the part it’s not a usable axe, more for display only. *edit: axe has yet to be used. It’s been sat in a room untouched since delivered a couple of weeks ago and the leather wrap on the handle has already started coming off. Very disappointing. Will be requesting a return and refund.
Hey a novice to the world of replica and historical weapons here. I brought the black ragnar on a 50% sale, seems like a robust bit of kit.
Not an exactly the same as the one in the pictures, the haft seem to be of a different design and shape and the leather wrap doesn't go all the way down to the bottom on the haft.
That being said, still a nice piece and well worth it especially when you include the 50% sale price.
My first but definitely not final purchase from Raven Forge. Had just a small issue in the beginning because the head got bit wobbly while in transit.
I contacted the RF right away and Matt sent me a kit (required to fix this tiny flaw) the same afternoon.

Absolutely love this axe I bought two because of my love for the show and what's more badass then having one axe, having two. Mostly bought for show and display purposes but I have no doubt they will be useful in a wide array of situations. 10/10
Fabulous and looks beautiful, but deadly! I only use mine for display but I am confident that should the need arise to chop wood, it will do so perfectly.
The axe is perfect in every way, great weight, visually stunning and perfect balance. It will suit all of my pillaging needs and pairs quite nicely with my sword.
Before this axe life was meaningless. Once it arrived and i grasped it my beard grew 3ft longer, my local council made me jarl and churches started gifting me their gold for... "protection". Perfect for raids, looking awesome and scaring monks.
Ordered for my father for Christmas. He works so hard and never has any disposable income to treat himself. Just love this Black Ragnar, it’s beautifully balanced and swings as nothing is in your hands. The quality of is amazing, the leather strapping is nice and smooth giving plenty of grip and the finish on the axe head is stunning

I find the Black Ragnor awesome to heft and great to look at. It's my first ax and I love it, though I dunno why, I just thought it'd be bigger, heavier than it is. But that's probably just because I've never been lucky enough to handle a proper axe before. I look forward to showing it off. Thanks guys!
