Nice hafts that fit most of the Raven Forge axe heads - I have the Frankish thrower. The 1st pic shows the new haft during fitting - and the state of my old haft for comparison.
The hafts are a good size and super easy to fit - just drop the axe head onto the new haft and tap on a log until well seated.
I apply oil to the haft to give it the best chance of survival. I use food grade mineral oil (just because I have it for oiling blades etc) and the oil brings out the wood grain really nicely. You can see this on the 1st pic.
Sadly (from a looks perspective - the wood is very pretty) I then tape the bejesus out of the haft for throwing longevity - see 2nd and 3rd photos…
This time I’ve included a metal strip in the taping - I’m thinking of it as a poor man’s langet. The reinforced section under the axe head has already taken some big hits from bad throws and I hope the langet will keep the haft alive longer.
Before and after. Unfortunately, I guess due to the hand forged nature, one of my new hafts was a little narrow for a couple of the axes that needed replacing, hopefully this haft will fit other heads once they need replacing
This fitted the Ragnar axe head with a little wiggle, a wedge and some epoxy resin. Slight burn to the haft just a little wrap and jobs a gooden! Thanks Raven 🐦⬛ team ⚒️👍
No problems with the ordering and service they were excellent just as this item is, a well crafted handle that is good in the hands nicely smoothed and a top quality wood, now to find a axe held that will match this but will be able to make a superb weapon for use and show.
