This straight katana (known as a chokutō (直刀) is a single-edged Japanese sword that was mainly produced prior to the 9th century. This katana is hand-forged in a traditional technique, with a striking high carbon steel blade with a T10 clay tempered hamon, housed in a wooden hand-painted saya for protection.
One of the most striking parts of this exceptional chokuto is it's black and gold tsuba, featuring an representation of two Japanese Kami. Kamis are deities or spirits of the Shinto religion that are found in nature. They are related to cosmic forces and can even embody the souls of deceased people. They are the spirits of ancestors, places, natural elements, or deceased emperors, that rule over Japan.
The tsuka (grip) is covered in ray skin, and then wrapped in ito cord for ergonomic grip. A copper ferrule and seppa are seen where the blade meets the tsuba. This sword is of immense quality and would make a fine addition to any collection.
Approximate specifications are as follows:
Full length: 105cm
Blade length: 72cm
Materials: high carbon steel, T10 clay tempered hamon, ray skin, wood
Edge: sharp
