About the Prize: The Roman Gladius
The Gladius is one of the most iconic swords in history, carried by the legionaries of the once-mighty Roman Empire. Its short, broad blade was designed for close-quarters fighting in formation and was extremely capable of piercing armour such as chain mail. Our Roman Gladius features the classic pommel and grip configuration instantly recognisable from the era, finished in antique brass, black, brown and silver tones, and it comes complete with a scabbard. At around 80cm long and 2.2kg, it makes a superb display piece for fans of Roman history, reenactors, and anyone who has ever watched Gladiator and fancied a plumed helmet and a Scutum shield to go with it.
