“Some men lust for women and others lust for gold, but I only lust to please the gods.” -Floki
The design for this hatchet was inspired by legendary viking Floki and belongs to our range of axes that makes you feel like you should be hastily forming up a shield wall ready to soak up a volley of arrows!
Not only is this a great companion for outdoor work, but it would also look mean in any viking themed display. It features a durable and fully functional high carbon steel blade that will serve you well for years to come. This absolute unit is also hafted using an English Ash handle that is charred fully black in the workshop to make it look extra fierce and finished with a chunky black leather grip so it feels great in the hand.
Burning hafts black is an old blacksmiths trick to smooth the handle and prevent getting blisters whilst they work. It wraps the wood in a layer of carbon that's highly resistant to mould, insects, water and even fire. It also hardens the wood, making it less likely to crack or splinter. This process is called "Charring" - burning and rubbing in oil whilst the wood is still hot/warm. Cool right?
