Roman Shield


Used by the ancient Roman Army starting fourth century BC, this is a  wooden replica of a long, convex shaped shield, named a Scutum. It's advantages in battle were numerous; light enough to be held with one hand, could cover the whole wielder for maximum protection especially during a tustudo shield wall, and the boss could be used as a punching mechanism.
