Inspired by three archæological finds in Scotland (North Mains, Ashgrove and Machrie Mains) ranging from 1,700BC to 2,500BC, this mead has drawn from each of these to represent a 4,000 year old Scottish mead. Lime honey, meadowsweet, and heather combine to create a full-bodied and heady mead.
Lots of meadowsweet flower on the nose with a rich maltiness from the heather in the mouth. Toffee notes linger without too much sweetness – medium to medium-dry.
Serve chilled. Try with ginger ale or tonic water for a long drink and it goes well with a measure of either whisky or gin added.
Rookery Craft Mead is an independent meadery in Perthshire. A huge amount of research go into their meads, looking to evidence in the historical and archæological record for source material, then back-engineering these ancient drinks to create modern and exciting products. Almost all the ingredients, down to the wax seal, are foraged and sourced from the local area; if there was ever an authentic mead, this is it.
No sulphites, sugars or syrups are used…ever!
Store in a cool dark place. Shelf-life is in excess of 1 year.
